I have a small driveway & sidewalk and this works good for my needs most of the time. If you get 2-3 feet of snow on a regular basis then you will need something more heavy duty than this.

No data on longevity and bought an extra battery right away. Had in storage at 2 bars out of 3 charge. Charged both to pretty full prior to use. Using it now to clear extra drainage paths taking swipes through drifts starting at the top. Can't handle snowplowed snow at all. Not expecting it to handle 'old' snow. Nice design overall for clearing channels. Tested initially on a driveway and sidewalk with 3-4 inches of packy (snowman) snow and had to push, pull back, push (easy to do and didn't have to lift snow at edges). Was able to clear driveway and sidewalk with a bit of snow left on both in about an hour. Threw about 10-14 feet (with the help of the wind). If you don't want to lift the snow at the edges, the tradeoff is patience with less width and limited capacity. (Standard shovel clears best to pavement - snowblower clears best for volume and better to pavement - was still snowing and blowing when finished a first pass.) If you can use it working with the wind, the sidewalks are easy. Throws snow forward so helps if the wind picks it up and puts it in the snowbanks - otherwise you need to use it sort of sideways. Two batteries did about one hours work and could have done just a bit more (thinking maybe 15-20 minutes more). Read that batteries (after use) should be stored at 2 full bars out of 3 (if 3 is full) (versus topped off) and recharged about every 6 months if in storage to get the longest use out of them. Don't expect it to work on slush. Don't expect it to work on any packed snow or ice chunks and avoid areas with sticks. It doesn't clear fully to pavement which isn't a big deal when clearing drainage channels in grassy areas where a person might finish clearing the area with a standard shovel anyway. Biggest values so far ... moving some (fresh) snow weight to different quite distant areas so it didn't have to be lifted while limiting the development of extra snowbanks around the drainage channels. And, clearing/moving some snow in areas where a snowblower can't easily be used.

pros: northeast winters. this is a helpful shovel to those that can not lift. it lightweight enough to feel like you aren't straining. battery is easily charged. cons: battery doesnt seem to last long enough. certain consistencies of snow are not usable. lightweight snow just blows back into your face. and heavy heavy snow depending on how deep can be troublesome as even though lightweight you can not hold it up to do a reasonable layer of snow at a time. so its not useful for all kinds of winter. suggestion is also to get an extra battery

Getting the handle pieces together was tough for me BUT I put all my strength into it and got it together. The next day we had 1-1/2” of slush😠. This threw the slush like a pro, the only setback was it didn’t scrape down to the cement but this was my first time using it. I love it!!

First of all, I'm not clear on why anyone raves about this thing. It basically works ok (when it works). Since it's not a real snow blower, you can't angle which direction the snow goes, which is inconvenient but workable. And it does work relatively well in thick wet snow, which was a pleasant surprise. The problem is, the more thick the snow, the shorter the battery life. Even in ideal conditions and going very conservative with the on-switch, I never got more than 30 minutes out of it. It's also way heavier than you'd think so it's tiring to use. And since it's totally designed to be used right handed, it's difficult to switch hands back and forth to alleviate strain on your right arm (not to mention what it would be like to be actually be left handed working the thing). Then to top it off, less than 8 weeks after purchasing (of course a few weeks past the Amazon return window), and after only using a handful of times, it just suddenly stopped working. I chatted with tech support to try and solve the problem, and very early on in the process they determined that it just didn't work at all anymore. They said they could send a replacement (still not sure if they meant part or the whole unit?), but that it was currently out of stock, so I'd have to sit tight until it came back in stock. This of course all happened the day before a massive two-day snow storm hits our area. So I said that a down-the-road replacement doesn't help me now and that I was already unsatisfied with the product and wanted a refund. They offered store credit, which of course I also pushed back on since I certainly didn't want another one of these and wasn't too confident in the quality of any of their other products after this experience. Surprisingly, they did immediately offer a total refund by check, but that I'd have to send the unit back before they process the order, although they said they'd send me a return label. And of course the unit is big and bulky and I just threw out the boxes it came in the other day, so now I need to find an appropriate size box somewhere to pack it up and send it back. We'll see if I actually ever get a refund, although the tech support person was very nice and helpful as best they could be given the situation, I guess. Bottom line is that I thought this thing looked too good to be true, but the plethora of rave reviews caused me to overrule my instincts. I'll do my best to not let that happen again. I'd recommend paying a bit more and investing in a full-blown electric snow blower (that's what I'll be doing, anyway).

I tried two other snow shovels before the Snow Joe. The Snow Joe was way better. It is solid and does a great job. We are getting lots of snow right now and so it is earning it's keep. It easily does 2-3 inches of snow. Getting over 4 inches it takes time and the battery runs out much quicker. If it is just fluffy snow it will do 5 inches but I feel it would be hard on it. The quick charge takes 1 3/4 hours to charge. I purchased an extra battery because my drive way is 3 cars long and 2 1/2 cars wide. The battery would be more then enough for a normal driveway and sidewalk. Should get 30 - 40 minutes depending on the amount of snow. Again love it. It was a great purchase.

only problem is it blows snow straight up with no adjustment so if its windy you have to be aware of wind direction

Love my Snow Joe Shovel! Have a very large driveway that has previously been managed by a snow removal company at a cost of $800 a season. We had a storm and I was able to completely clear the driveway, a set of stairs and landing - with ease and without running out of battery! It is light weight and easy to handle - yes, we women can do it too!! Bought an extra battery just in case but haven't had to use it. All I can say is, "Where have you been?"

As mentioned in many reviews, the electric cord is too long to allow the three sections of the three pole-sections to fit properly. First, install the mid-handle onto the mid-section, next remove the three screws that attach the bottom section to the blower-housing, then assemble the three sections, and finally reattach the bottom section to the shovel housing. Had a 40-cm snow storm today and the shovel did help to lighten the work load, requiring several passes. I paid $200 + taxes but now with the price 30% higher, I'd look at other shovels that allow throw-direction adjustment.
