The songs themselves are absolutely amazing. However, the mix and master are both pretty poor. Thankfully this can be mostly remedied by owning the 3-disc deluxe edition. This contains a 7.1 ATMOS mix of the album that uses a slightly different mix and a much less compressed master. Downmixing that version to 2 channels provides a far greater listening experience than the standard cd. One star removed for having to go through the downmixing process. This seems more and more common and I'm not sure why the better mixes/masters aren't being put on the standard cds to being with. Everyone should be able to enjoy music they purchase in its best form. Not just those who buy deluxe editions and know how to downmix the multi-channel to stereo.

GRANDE THE CURE !!!!
Ps.

It's The Cure's new album - after 16 years! For me also, a return to Cure top form! Fans should not be disappointed and newbies will find delightful, deep and dark moods and sounds reflecting life, love, loss and the human journey.
While I'm not keen on Alone (it just doesn't do it for me - not a patch on openers Plainsong or Open, or the earlier ones imho), all the other songs I love and have had on repeat, loud with earbuds. It gets better with more playing too. I'd heard a lot of the new songs live already, but now in studio versions you can hear more of what's behind them, and the richness of them. I like the songs more now, and can go back to the live shows with a greater appreciation.
I Can Never Say Goodbye is a new Cure classic, a beautiful and emotional song, musically and lyrically, on the death of Robert's big brother. He makes us feel it too. Endsong is bleak and powerful. The surging vocal chorus of All I Ever Am is energising and passionate, it gives me goosebumps. A Fragile Thing I think works better on the album - both more power and space in it. Drone:Nodrone rocks out Cure style and adds some pace to the album, without dropping the overall mood.
I'm listening a few times a day and am looking forward to listening to this Cure album many, many times over the years. Thanks Robert and the lads!
