The LSO plays beautifully here. Gergeiv's interpetations are rich and deep. Some have a different feel than the classic recordings that I listen to, but that makes it all the more interesting.I enjoy hearing different conductors takes .Some of the stand out for me are 2 4 8. This is a truely entertaining set.

I downloaded this for free with my Prime membership and have listened to it all in a couple of sittings. I am pretty impressed by this set, though there are a couple of clunkers, namely the 4th (first movement, especially, which is slack and puzzling) and the 8th (first movement, which due to the venue, is pretty much unlistenable; the long decay is distracting and I find myself more worried about its muddying effects on the next phrase than I am listening to the present one). But otherwise, I think the criticisms of this set are unwarranted. I respectfully disagree with those who find the 3rd superficial. Those who don't like brisk Mahler should remember Kubelik's speed, which often works well. I also disagree with those who find the 5th too expansive. It reminds me of Barbirolli's, which also threatens to come apart in the second movement but in his hands never does. Those who think the 7th is "nothing new" are expecting too much novelty; it's a very, very good rendition and needn't have something new to say. The 9th falls into the same category: very, very good, even if nothing new to say. People seem to agree that the 2nd and 6th are excellent, and I agree (though I will switch the andante and scherzo in the 6th next time I play this set). The 10th's adagio is very nice. Would I pay $50 or $60 for this set? No. I can get 10 far better renditions for $5 apiece by ordering used CDs and burning them. Tennstedt or Bertini or Geilen or Bernstein or Abbado or Rattle: pick one or two from each, and you've done better than this, for far less, and not had to grapple with Gergiev’s morally bankrupt support for psychopath Putin. Still, I've enjoyed listening to this set, and the sonics are quite good. We have such variety from which to choose in Mahler symphonies.

I really like the LSO live SACDs. The sound is quite good and the performances are competitive. I am not sure I'd choose this as my only Mahler set, but for great sound, this is a good choice.

On the plus side, this cycle has some of the most ferocious and exciting climaxes to be heard in Mahler. At its best, this cycle is impressive. A particular standout is the 1st movement of the 7th, the 8th and 6th. The 7th builds to a climax that is nearly terrifying and the 6th is so full of atmospherics in the finals I almost didn't recognize it. But it is really great. Too often tho, I find the tempos too fast, and Giergiev's readings seem a bit cursory, just skimming the surface of the music. I would strongly advise against purchasing a single set of Mahler - there is absolutely no one who succeeds equally at every symphony.

As a life long aficionado of the Composer I am always interested in what great conductors do with music that lies somewhat outside their usual repertoire. Gergiev's Mahler may not be everyone's cup of tea but it is played with commitment and finesse and well able to stand comparison with cycles from those who specialise in this music. Fans of Bernstein,of whom I am one, will find some of the tempi on the brisk side. Audiophiles may take exception to the Barbican acoustic but I think this set is very well recorded, you can certainly here most of what's in the score and the sound is well balanced. If one was to have only one version of the Mahler symphonies this perhaps would not be it but as someone who already a number I have really enjoyed listening to this as a download which for the price of a premium CD is an absolute steal

Désolé de faire le commentaire en français. Sorry to explain my experience in french.
