Ask anybody that knows me, I'm not a country music fan. But, after hearing some of the songs from her Fearless album on the radio and really liking them, I took the gamble and bought this album and Fearless. Now I haven't even started listening to Fearless because I can't stop listening to this album! This girl has a real gift for putting powerful emotions into beautiful words and turning it into a catchy tune. EVERY SONG on this album is a jewel. The music is lightly produced, which is perfect because it gives more emphasis to her singing. But don't get me wrong, each of these tunes are extremely catchy. I never realized how good a little twang and a banjo could sound. But the real gem here is the lyrics. She wrote/co-wrote each song. Each of them are from real experiences in her life and it shows. She sings of love, longing, vulnerability, heartbreak and loneliness--things that we can all identify with at some time in our life. She's certainly not the first to sing about those feelings. But she shows real literary and musical genius in being able to tell us these stories of her life in a way which causes us to be right there with her as she lived it and to feel it ourselves. Furthermore, all of her songs, even the saddest ones, come from a position of confidence and optimism that remind us that it's OK to be sad when you don't get the person you want every time, when you are different and don't fit-in, and when someone has hurt you. In summary, Taylor Swift has made me remember how good music can be. Her debut album is like a good book that I hope never ends. This isn't pop candy. Each song deserves to be savored, and if you are anything like me, you won't be able to stop listening and singing along to the songs on this album for a long time.

I actually bought this album after Fearless and Speak Now, and until I had it in my hands I had never heard all the songs, but I was very impressed with it. This is definitely the "country-est" album Taylor has released, and in my opinion it's a wonderful first album. The lyrics and music are filled with Taylor's feelings and stories, and the music and beats are really pleasant to hear. There are no fillers in this album. Now, about the Deluxe Edition that's quite expensive to get these days.... it is definitely worth the extra money! The lenticular cover is absolutely beautiful, and Taylor's first conversation with Tim McGraw is cool and funny to hear, they're both very funny. The DVD is very nice, too. There are images and videos that I bet you have never seen before, and Taylor is very humble and smart, it's very nice to listen to her talking. I say buy the Deluxe Edition if you have the chance, and don't be scared of the high price, it's an awesome purchase.

I haven't bought an album in years. Just nothing on the radio seemed worth buying to hear over and over again. Then I hear "Teardrops On My Guitar", and I'm hooked. I investigate a little more online, and find myself liking all of her songs, not just the singles on the radio. She writes and plays all of her songs! This artist has substance. I'm totally captivated by the music videos that are feature film-quality displaying her expressive acting skills. I've never heard such purity and honesty conveyed by a human voice. Finally, an artist who really deserves my money and support! Such intelligent lyrics, and clever turns of phrase, it's poetry of the highest order. And then putting music to the lyrics with great hooks and guitar solos, that's just musical talent. The lesser known songs are just as good, if not even better than the singles! "A Place In This World", "Cold As You", "The Outside" (written when she was 12yo!), "Tied Together With A Smile", "Invisible". "Tim McGraw","Stay Beautiful" and "Mary's Song" just bring tears of joy to my eyes, they're such expressions of pure unselfish, love that they resemble benedictions in the form of songs. Even when she's angry: "Picture To Burn" and "Should've Said No", she's the voice of justice decrying bad behavior, selfishness, the lack of pure love; she's a force of nature you don't want to mess with. As other reviewers have noted, if these songs haven't made you fall in love with Taylor, just read the liner notes on the album. They'll bring more tears to your eyes. Taylor has a tendency to open up hearts that way. <3

I listened to this years ago, when Taylor was into country. I'm 69 years old and love listening to this CD.

I bought this CD after Kanye West grabbed her mic from her during her VMA acceptance because I wanted to show support for her after he was such a jerk. I didn't expect that I'd be much into it because country isn't my primary forte (I'm more into Christian rock stuff), I'm old enough to be her dad, and I figured my kids would probably enjoy it. First of all she has an absolutely great voice. She is exceptionally gifted, whoever that other reviewer is that said she needs singing lessons knows not of what he speaks. The lyrics are very much in the vein of teen romance, but there is nothing wrong with that. To be honest it brought back memories of my high school days. It's much deeper than I expected coming from someone her age. Not because it's uncommon to experience hurt, and rejection at that age, but because it's hard to articulate it while keeping your perspective. Sure there's a few moments where her lyrics seem trite and self serving, but it's far better than most of what I've heard coming from that generation. All things considered I'd highly recommend this CD.
