I bought the book because I wanted to know why the first reviewer would only give it one star. I think the book is right on target as a teaching tool for young people in our country who may not be getting the message that democracy can be messy, hard work, and worth the effort. It’s also a great opportunity to expand some vocabulary. Thank you Rep. Jeffries for making the effort and taking the time to give this book to us, and also for serving our country.

I bought this for my 12 year old grand daughter and did not see the examples of what was inside. The concepts are too difficult for a child in grade school and the one positive and negative word regarding democracy for each letter of the alphabet too simplistic for a preteen. I was hoping for a book that introduced the basic concepts of democracy. I was very disappointed.

Our four-year-old really enjoys the creative, brilliant illustrations that animate this thoughtful exploration of our American experiment. One letter at a time, our family is discussing the importance of democracy, civic engagement and leadership. Can't wait until we get to Xenial! For those looking for a cool, family-fun stocking stuffer this holiday season, we highly recommend The ABCs of Democracy.

I enjoyed how the book broke down big ideas like fairness, justice, and the power of voting in a way that’s both fun and eye-opening. The book is like a conversation and has sparked a discussion about our values and what we stand for. Needed now more than ever.

Awful book. It’s a cartoon! I wanted to truly learn something about his Democratic views and it’s like a 1st grader wrote it. No substance. Hugely disappointing. It’s a pamphlet. Not a book

I saw the author talk about the book on a recent morning TV show and I got excited. My wife and I ordered the book because of the potential for education about democracy. We also wanted to screen it before ordering it for our 4 granddaughters, whose parents have differing political leanings. To our disappointment, we will not be ordering the book for them. It had great potential for education and about 75% of the content is spot on. However, for example, regarding the letter "M," M is for "Maturity over Mar-A-Lago." That's a direct put-down and it didn't need to be that way. Jeffries could have been more subtle. This makes the book relevant to the present moment of division, but in 10 years, will anyone care about the reference to Mar-A-Largo? In my opinion, Jefferies missed a GREAT opportunity to educate the electorate without ruffling any feathers.

A truly inspiring and beautifully illustrated book that serves as a powerful reminder of the spirit of the American people and what this country stands for, especially in the wake of the election. Reading it with my two sons was a meaningful experience, and I’m excited to share it with family as a holiday gift.

I’m sorry Hakeem Jeffries put his name to this book. It is too simplistic & confusing & partisan. It’s a missed opportunity.
