Like many people, I have a few short inspirational quotes that I refer to during one of life's challenges. But they are just that: short. In this book, Peter explains if you really want to change your life by acquiring a new skill you need to learn HOW to learn. This was not not taught to you in school. He sites several methods and examples, making it easy to follow the experts' thinking. He gives you the road map and what you realistically need to do to keep driving ahead. Learning isn't easy, but now I see how my brain works. I plan to apply the methods in this book to learning my next vocation. I will stay curious and keep working hard, but more smartly after having read this book
In all honesty, I was going to only give the book 4 stars, but then I remembered how much the brain needs repetition to remember and I got what he was doing.

This is a good starting point for some tips, tricks, and inspiration to start you on the path to learning that new skill that's been niggling in the back of your mind for awhile. Everything in this book is fairly common sense and is easily accessible to anyone motivated enough. As I read through I had a lot of moments of " Oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense" and "I can definitely do that."

The author covers the basics of learning as well as other issues that contribute to or take away from the learning process. I'm glad I picked this book and will continue to use it as a reference!

The author has done a great job consolidating multiple important concepts into one book that most people would actually read. I would consider this book to be a primer on productivity and skill acquisition and would recommend pairing it with books like Deep Work by Cal Newport and Practice Perfect by Doug Lemov. The author has more books on the subject, but I haven't read them yet, perhaps I will take a look at one more soon.
Well written, properly organized and the summaries at the end of each chapter and at the end of the book are very useful

Pretty standard, with good points. I liked the way the author went over different theories of learning and then supported the theory with background info.

This author gets down to the practical business of optimized learning with sufficient examples but not a lot of fluff. I will apply many of these principles in a disciplined approach to my current quest of learning a musical instrument, and I expect a significant improvement in my results.

Good book for understanding the basics of learning, like the different methods and learning styles, sensing, intuition, physical and so forth. Added in the book is a blend of knowledge acquisition, adopting the habits of role models, with a healthy mix of motivational strategies such as surrounding yourself with positive people or not giving weight to negative statements. It was a good afternoon readiNguyen but I felt there could have been just a bit more on strategies of learning with more in-depth examples.

This book was the second one I read in Hollins's series on self-learning and I still managed to get a few new ideas on how to approach my studies. The book was written in a flowing and pleasant manner. The author provides general guidance on the mindframe with which you should approach self-learning, together with some useful tips on how to plan out your studies in a way that increases your chances of success. I'll definitely check out another of Hollins's books in the future.

Peter Hollins gives tremendous amounts of value about how to quikly gain skills and how to structure every part of the learning process. The book is also very well structured which I really appreciate.

Almost all the advice given by the book could be found on internet, at that is the conclusion I came to, no real strategy, although I concur or at least I already new what is said in the book.
I didn't really learn something new as compared to the amount of time I dedicate to reading it.
But this could work for you maybe.
The choice is up to you.
For me I'm interested in real advanced techniques of learning.

Lo compré para regalo. Les gustó mucho.

The author does his best to dispel the notion that skill acquisition is either granted to those with 'natural' ability or talent, or that it can be easily acquired with little effort. What he does well is to strip the process of skill acquisition back to the bone, then provide tools to enable one to achieve his or her aim.
The book needs to be read several times in order to firmly grasp concepts and strategies, so if you are looking for a shortcut, you will not find it here.
A really good read.
