Red gaurd is actually more of a redish PINK yarn color. It turned out cute. It comes with a pre started piece and very easy to follow directions. You will learn to crochet with these kits.

Great beginning crochet project for a grandma and grandchild to work on together. Super great bonding experience.

I gifted this kit to my sister who has never crocheted before. She found it pretty difficult to complete and it took her 8+ hours to do it. It would've been better if this kit had come with paper directions so she could have used it to keep track of what step she was on. Also, she said that the video directions would refer to previously shown steps as a part of the next step without going over it again so she would have to back track and re-watch past clips.

There is an interesting commentary to be made about the preponderance of Squid Game marketing for Season 2, but obviously, that's not really connected to this product. Also, I cringe at saying Squid Game "fans" because I feel like Squid Games speaks to our current society and blah blah blah... Anyway, Woobles! I've tried one in the past (the actual one, not one of the dupes), the unicorn, and I thought it was pretty clever (though I was a bit unimpressed also at the unicorn because it was a bit weird, but again, that's a tangent). The Woobles claims they come with everything you need and copious instructions. And yes, they actually make good on that claim. Other than maybe scissors, everything you need - all the yarn, the needles, the stuffing, the hook (which has a specific Squid Game design) - is sufficient for making your project. The other big bonuses to these kits is the fact 1) that the magic circle is started for your first piece with the first three stitches clearly marked and 2) the video library of instructions on how you do each stitch. I've been crocheting for nearly 3 decades, so I didn't really need the video library, though I have poked around with them. My assessment: a great tool, very detailed, slow and elaborate, though some of the stitches are shown with different projects so it might be strange/confusing. (Why does the crocheter have a lion and not my project?) Which was fine for me because Woobles also provides an 11 page PDF that is also super detailed and clear. This project said it could work up in 3 - 8 hours; for fun, I timed myself and came out at around 97 min. (YAY ME) I could see where someone with less experience or smaller hands might take longer. Overall, I am really impressed with these types of kits and their ability to introduce new people to crochet. I have minor quibbles, which I'll briefly touch on here: 1) There was a large amount of black yarn and a separate smaller amount of black yarn in the Wee Woobly Bits envelope. What was the small black yarn supposed to be used for? 2) I either crocheted too tight or not tight enough. My stitches have gaps to see the stuffing underneath, which suggests a loose stitch, but I tried super hard with the provided hook to make my stitches tight. The original magic circle was pretty loose (suggesting I should have gone looser), but I was having trouble matching that tension and also I hate outside pull and opted for an inside pull. 3) I used all the stuffing and he's still pretty squishy, not overly firm. I've seen loads of videos where people barely use any stuffing and I wonder how their projects look so solid! This is not a cheap project by any means, but what you are paying for is convenience. Every tool you need in just the right quantities. A pattern with clear instructions on how to do each stitch, meant for someone who may never have picked up a hook before. For a more experienced crocheter, you could probably do this yourself for cheaper - but if you want the special hook or a kit for someone who is new, this is a fun idea!

I've tried multiple "learn-to-crochet" kits from numerous companies. Typically, I'd pick-up a kit that was inexpensive, had a design I liked, and promised to be easy to learn for beginners. Admittedly, I have avoided the Woobles kits because they tend to be more expensive than most of the kits out there. I won't avoid them any more. The most consistent thing I've found with the cheaper kits is that I always give up on them - not because I lose interest - but because the instructions have historically been terrible. Generally, I've found that you get some combination of cryptic instructions and/or links to unaffiliated YouTube tutorials. Never have I seen instructions that were not only specific to the project, but broke each stitch down step-by-step with easy to follow dialogue. This is where Woobles really seems to get it right. A quick side-bar, I will say the quality of tools with the Woobles kit is much nicer than others I've seen. But the instructional content they've built around each specific project is absolutely superior. From the first stitch, I could understand what I needed to do and follow along easily while I learn this new skill. Even more impressive, if you screw-up the project (like I did), Woobles gives you a step-by-step guide to fix any error you make. For me, I had missed a stitch, then ended-up backing out my yarn to the point where I untied my magic stitch. In the past, this would have been the death of the kit for me, but the Woobles guide made it easy to restart from scratch giving me the confidence to press on. Now I have no doubt I'll be able to finally finish a project! Of course it's the design that will attract most people, and this themed Squid Games front man was a surprisingly cute find, so I really felt like I wanted to give it a shot. Happily, the true value of this kit is in all the content and support they have behind it. Of course it's going to be a little more expensive, but it's well worth it the added cost. I have too many unfinished inexpensive kits, so paying a little more for a kit I know I can accomplish is a no-brainer. In fact, I think it will give me the confidence and skill to actually complete those other sets. I am very much a Woobles convert and will only seek out these sets until I have thoroughly developed my skill. Very HIGHLY recommend.
