I've been using turbotax for years but this is the first time I had to use download only. I downloaded it without any problems in January but waited until I received all my related bank and other forms in February to activate it. Activation and necessary updating was easy, as long as you kept the information that came with the download email. I've never had trouble using turbotax for federal and state returns, even when I had more complicated tax returns. e-filing the federal tax return went without a glitch. I mailed the state return rather than pay to e-file. The mailing instructions provided made that easy. I received my refund last week. One hint. If you have to file a state income tax, buy the premium version, which includes the state tax download. Even if your taxes are simple, it will cost you more in the end to pay for the state download if you buy the least expensive version.

The product works great and easy to use for Federal and State returns. It ask all right questions. BUT Turbotax will charge you an extra $199.00 for the use of software ASSISTED. Their policy is if you buy from third party (Amazon) you have no choice whether you use it or not. In my case I did not and it cost the extra. BEWARE. You want know this until get ready to transmit your returns. You go through all the work filling out the forms then you get hit with extra charges.

I have used Turbo Tax software for quite a few years to do our taxes. We are at a point that we don't have much in deductions and have used the standard deduction for the last few years. Even so, I feel more comfortable with the option to use deductions if we can save more than using the standard deduction. Since tax laws are constantly changing, I still run through all of the possible deductions which are, for the most part, described well in this software. I suppose I could use the online version to save the cost of this software, but I don't feel comfortable putting all of our financial information online. One problem I have had in the last couple years, including this year, is that some entries have shown errors at the end and how to fix them was not clearly described. I got through them this year, but, in the past, have had to do some research on the internet to find out how to correct entries. One thing I very much dislike about Turbo Tax is that the software automatically adds an Interest/Penalty charge to the amount of tax owed without making the user aware that this is being done. It also doesn't offer any suggestions as to how to avoid this charge. This penalty charge is calculated and automatically added to taxes owed when you owe over $1000 because you did not have enough Federal Income Tax taken out of your income during the year. The only place you will see the charge is on the first page of the forms if you print them and happen to read the forms before putting them away. I became aware of the penalty charge this year when I happened to read the printed pages. I believe that Turbo Tax software would be more helpful if: 1) The taxpayer was made aware of this addition to taxes owed. 2) Suggestions were offered to avoid this charge. This is particularly aggravating for me since we are retired and have to withdraw funds from our IRA retirement account to pay Federal Taxes which increases our income and taxes due. So, we have to pay taxes and a penalty charge for money we had to withdraw to pay taxes. There is something very wrong with this picture. I do realize this is not caused by Turbo Tax, but the taxpayer should be made aware of this penalty that increases taxes owed. For us, this amounted to over $450 this year. UPDATE 02/19/25: Although it did take a few hours to figure out, I did find a way to avoid the $450 penalty added to the taxes. In our case, I had to fill out the 2210 form to explain that extra money had to be withdrawn to pay 2023 taxes and to pay a few other extraordinary expenses. It pays to do your research. Although this software isn't as "cut and dried" as I would like it to be, it beats paying a tax accountant to do our taxes. Incidentally, in the past, I have used tax accountants, and every time I was audited. I have never been audited when I have done our taxes using Turbo Tax. I hope this review was helpful for you.

I appreciate how the software asks clear questions and provides helpful tips along the way, making sure I don’t miss any important deductions. It is highly reliable, with accurate calculations and quick filing. I’ve used it for a couple of years now, and it’s consistently delivered great results. TurboTax is definitely the way to go.

I was anticipating difficulty in downloading this new version of TTax being its non CD and the reviews are less than positive. I downloaded the software w/o any trouble, initialized it with the secret special ‘key’ from intuit. The software ran smoothly. No hiccups, no troubles. Was up to date and didnt require any updates before starting like the CD version of past years. Ran well and completed my taxes w/o needing help from TTax people or intuit. I’ll be doing it again next year with no reservations.

I’ve been using this for years. It’s so easy to do your taxes with Turbo tax. I use the personalitemized with state tax version. It walks you through every entry, goes back to check the return for errors or missing entries, and walks you through itemizing your donations such as clothing and household goods. When done you can electronically file. If you use annually, it will bring over previous years info so you don’t have to enter. I feel very confident using.

While I've used Turbo Tax for many years, this is the first year that I've used the digital download option since the CD format was discontinued. It was a very straightforward process and installation -- actually quicker and easier than installing from a CD. To complete the install you will need to have an account set up on Intuit, a requirement that was first initiated last year. If you don't already have an account it's easy to set up, and you don't have to provide too much personal info (unless you want to). The user interface is the same as in the past, so if you're an experienced TT user it will be very familiar. If you are a first-time TT user you can opt for the "walk me through it" option that takes you step by step through all the many, many steps required to file taxes. My only complaint was that the price was cut by ten bucks the day after I purchased this. Hate when that happens now that Amazon will not do a post-purchase price adjustment. Nuts! Filling out tax forms is never enjoyable, but TT makes it bearable, and the digital delivery works well (and no wasted packaging or CD). FIve stars.
