The medical industry still relies on fax for some documents. This applies to some computer software as well and using email isn't allowed. So, to go along with these archaic standards I needed a modem. This model works with Windows 10 and Server 2019, and will most likely be supported for the next versions. Don't forget to get a standard Parallel to Serial cable as it doesn't come in the box. DO NOT GET a null cable unless you are specifically required to.

We now recommend this modem to our customers to connect to our industrial product (often installed in areas with marginal phone lines). Nothing fancy required - we're just communicating at 9600 baud - but this modem just seems to work better than others for our application (e.g. compared to Zoom/Hayes external serial, Zoom USB, internal PC modem). The volume control is very handy for customers since they can turn volume up or down using the knob on the modem and don't have to mess around with control panel or AT command settings.

This unit is not real US Robotics, it can't keep stable connection even at 2400 baud. Handshakes are very slow. No Caller ID support at all! Returning back to Amazon and going back to my 30 yo Sportster, which works much better! =)))

Under "Frequently bought together" the "StarTech.com 10 ft Cross Wired DB9 to DB25 Serial Null Modem" was the wrong cable. A "Your Cable Store 6 foot DB9 Female / DB25 Male Serial Port Cable RS232" worked with the "USB to Serial 9 pin converter cable". A better solution than the "USB to Serial 9 pin converter cable" is a "Startech.com 16 inch 9 pin Serial male to 10 pin Motherboard Header Slot plate - motherboard Serial Port Adapter". Motherboards should have a 10 pin female socket labeled COM1 to plug the 10 pin male socket into. The "Your Cable Store 6 foot DB9 Female / DB25 Male Serial Port Cable RS232"'s DB9 pin Female mates with the "Startech.com 16 inch 9 pin Serial male ...".

I bought it just so I could hear the sound of a 56k modem every 5 minutes. In all seriousness we use an outdated service to run credit cards for a restaurant. Our old one stopped working so I purchased the exact same one we had. Plug and play. Works great. Was surprised it was still sold on Amazon!

This is just a little misleading. In order to get this product to work with windows 7, you have to use the default windows 7 modem driver. The delivered driver with the modem WILL NOT WORK !!!

I've been using/recommending USR products for decades. Consistent high quality as previous models and easy installation always. I especially like this model with the on/off switch since I send faxes very seldom these days but like to know I can do it easily and reliably when I need to.
