I'm a returning student who played clarinet seriously while in high school and then stopped for a very long time. I recently began re-learning the clarinet and was using the Vandoren B45 mouthpiece (same one I used in high school). This was a challenge since I hadn't played for so long. I was unhappy with my sound but thought it was just due to lack of practice. After reading reviews of the Vandoren 5RV Lyre mouthpiece, I decided to give it a try. This mouthpiece has exceeded all my expectations. I'm still building my embouchure but already I'm amazed at the ease of playing the 5RV Lyre gives me, especially with transition from lower to upper register. I noticed an immediate improvement in my overall tone clarity and I achieved a more powerful sound at the same time. Fantastic! I highly recommend it.

When our band instructor said we needed to upgrade from the rental mouthpiece to this one, I was skeptical at first. But once we compared the sound, I understood. Our clarinet player has been playing for two years and with the new mouthpiece it is easier to hit the higher notes and get in tune. We are using it with the plastic rental clarinet (not wood) and it works fine. Worth the price! Makes beautiful music!

Easy to blow, easy to go to the upper register, great sound, warm but still clear. Very versatile.

My daughter was after me to get her one of these. So I finally relented and she loves it. I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t think it would make that big of a difference, the tone of her clarinet was richer and fuller. Squeaks were reduced too.

This is my daughter's 2nd Vandoren CM302 5RV Lyre mouthpiece. She loves it. It is much better than the stock mouthpiece that came with her clarinet.

My daughters other mouthpiece broke, so the day she told me I quickly came home and started researching. Found the Vandoren 5RV at a great price. After days of using it, my 10th grader says it sounds/plays much better than the old one. She really likes it. The Vandoren reeds are an exceptional product also.

I made this purchase for my daughter based on her idea, some help from her bandmates, and the name brand. I believe she is more then pleased with product and it helped her with sound and clarity. Only reason it gets 4stars is its obviously not the best, but for a hogh schooler who marches and competes...it's great.

This is the 6th Vandoren 5RV I have purchased (keep in mind there are three of us in our home who play) and this is a great mouthpiece, especially for the price. There are nicer, more expensive ones out there, but there are also a lot of crappy ones out there that are cheaper or in the same price range or more. This one is tried and true and good from the beginner to professional levels.

I own vandoren B45 dot and BD5 mouthpieces. The 5RV has a smaller tip gap than either of the B45 and BD5. I use it with vandoren V21 or 56 Rue reeds (strength 3) . It works with a gentler airstream and give a distinctive resonant sound. It can squeak a bit if you slacken your embouchure when slurring from chalumeau register into the clarion. Swapping your mouthpiece is the easiest way try a different sound or feel to your current instrument.

Just what we needed to update a clarinet for our granddaughter to use for her first year in band. Thanks.
