HUSBAND PLAYS THIS RECORD ALOT

I love this album! I really like the retro cover art. Very nice touch! There are versions of Christmas songs on this album that I haven’t heard before. It adds a nice variety to my Christmas LP collection. So why only 4 stars and not 5? It’s because there is a big disruption to the Christmas spirit with the inclusion of “Rockin’ Robin”. All of these great Christmas songs then….”Twiddly Twiddly Dee”! Uggggh!! It grinds my gears! LOL! I was wondering who in the world would include this song on a Christmas album. Here is the answer. This album is from a London producer and in England there is no other bird associated with Christmas and winter more than the Robin. Also, I think the Jackson 5 performed this on “Top of the Pops” near Christmas….which helped solidify it in the UK Christmas lexicon. The Bobby Day version is on this album….which I believe is public domain, not just the song, but the actual recording, so the producers of this record get to use this song royalty free...which may contribute to its inclusion. For those of us in the US, the Cardinal is the bird of Christmas and winter. The Robin is associated with spring. So….as long as you can handle a little “Rockin’ Robin” …this is a great choice for a Christmas album. I’m doing my best to embrace this oddity as a little International flavor from across the pond….but perhaps it is a better fit for a “Boxing Day” album and left off a Christmas album! :)

…and so did the tears. I played this on my grandmother’s old, long wooden built in stereo radio and record player. I didn’t know if it would work and play the record. Thankfully, it did and I found the songs and sound very nostalgic. This is a great buy. A little pricey but then again everything is expensive nowadays so I didn’t mind at all.
