S8 12/1/2024 Q5+ 7/12/23 S4 Max 8/18/21 This is a consolidated review of the Roborock S4 Max purchased August 18, 2021 (3-1/2 years ago), the Q5+ with Self-empty dock purchased July 12, 2023 (1-1/2 years ago) and the S8 purchased December 1, 2024 (3 months ago). I purchased the S4 during Covid, partially because I was noticing the dust around the house more since I was home all the time, and partially because I wanted to see if a robo-vacuum was a waste of money or not. I became a convert in the first week, as the S4 worked its way around the house, hoovering up light dust which immediately reduced dust motes floating in the air. It worked perfectly on hardwood and tile floors, acceptably on the stiff carpet pile in the bedrooms, but struggled with the plush carpet in the living room and heavy throw rugs. I put it on a schedule and other than spending 5 minutes every other day to dump the dust bin, it was perfect. I then started taking it downstairs, where it would spend an hour scooting around picking up the dust. Every couple of weeks I'd wipe it down and clean the sensors, and whenever it told me I'd replace the filter and brushes. I pulled out the regular vaccum cleaner once a month rather weekly. After a couple of months, what was noticeable was that my wife's and my allergies had decreased significantly. Also, instead of seeing a spider once or twice a week, it became a once every 3 months situation. Big win. While there were clear benefits, I figured that it probably wasn't going to be cost-effective - I expected the S4 Max to die pretty quickly since it was in use 3-5 days a week. A year went by and I knew that as soon as the S4 Max died I'd get a replacement. Another year went by with no signs of it giving up and I convinced myself that getting a new one for downstairs would be worthwhile - save my time carrying one upstairs and downstairs. Yes, laziness was a factor. I chose the Q5+ with self-emptying dock so I wouldn't need to deal with the dust bin. It now operates autonomously downstairs, vacuuming the entire downstairs 3 times a week, and I only need to replace the dust bag in the dock every other month. Three years after buying the S4 Max it seemed like the suction power was decreasing, and I was expecting it to fail at any time, so I researched the latest models and bought the S8 in December 2024. While I like the convenience of the self-emptying dock, in our upstairs (main living space) I like to get an idea of what is being vacuumed up. I was going to recycle the S4 Max, but then decided to keep it running along with the S8 for comparative purposes. I will say that, hands down, the S4 Max has been outstanding from a reliability and ease of use perspective. While they all essentially have the same form factor, the S4 Max manages to slip under furniture that defeats the Q5+ and the S8. The dustbin on the S4 Max also excels (I never thought I'd write a sentence like that). You pop it open, dump the dust and lint out, and you're done. The S8 dustbin has cross bars and braces that trap hair and lint, side ledges that hold onto dust, and a really efficient dust filter that needs to be brushed after each use since the dust cakes onto it. I'd guess that the S8 was specifically designed for use with a self-cleaning dock, but they made the decision to make a manual version as well. Implementation wasn't perfect. That said, the S8 has fantastic vacuuming power. For fun, I've had it vacuum the same room after the S4 Max, and it picks up a lot more that was missed. It is also significantly faster, covering the same rooms about 25% faster than the S4 Max. However, it is more "cautious" than the S4 Max and will not go under some furniture which the S4 Max handles well. I appreciate the Q5+ with self emptying dock. It just operates autonomously, keeping my downstairs dust (and spider) free. The only hiccup is that the side brush has started coming off every couple of weeks. Not quite sure what is going on, since I haven't had that issue with the S4 Max or the S8, but it is an additional maintenance step. The only thing that would make the Q5+ better would be a notification that the dust bag in the dock needs to be changed. Overall, the Roborock vacuums have exceeded my expectations for robo-vacuums. They have definitely improved quality of life by reducing dust in the house, and reduced the amount of time that needs to be spent dusting and vacuuming.

Works great, easy to use, better mopping than the S7 I had before. The dirt bin is a little fussy to empty and clean and it mis-labels obstacles, but the avoidance is spot on- it has not run over any vomit or feces yet and has not sucked up and toys like the older model did. Def worth the money if you can get it on sale. At full price there may be better options with more features. I tried a new Roomba but sent it back and got this instead, Roborock absolutely has more suction power and picks up more dirt. Corners and edges will still need to be swept as this does not clean them fully.

I have been using this for few days and I do have Deebot X1 Plus and in the past used iRobot as well, so u can consider me as Pro when it comes to Robot Vacuum reviews. Cons: 1. Sonic mopping is a gimmic and it is same as S7. It vibrates only within a small portion as shown in my picture highlighted area. 2. VibraRise mop rising is just 5mm which means it will always wet your most of the carpets. So don't think like it will rise the wet mop so u can do simultaneou mop and vacuum. It will even wet your low pile house hold carpets as well. 3. Water tank is small and no water flow control option. More over if you don't pre wet your mop then it will just leave 3 small stripes of wet lines. So they need to change the design to distribute water evenly and allow water flow level control like Deebox X1 Plus. 4. App needs improvement. Confusing part is settings for Vac Mop, vac, mop. 5. If u take base model S8 then u can't later add the Auto empty station. It's a bummer but if they want they can make a new dustbin and sell Auto empty dock. Hopefully they listen to it. Overall the base S8 model is a flop, and that is why even the Roborock US site does not offer trade-in for this base S8 model. Plz skip S8 base model. Pros: 1. Maps are accurate and navigation is spot on. 2. Vacuuming is good with plenty of suction power. 3. Long battery life.

This unit is a good value for the price. First robovac I have owned. After doing some online research, I found that this unit was suitable for the type of cleaning areas that I needed covered. There are a lot more expensive robovacs out there with features that really weren't necessary for me. Overall I'm happy and satisfied with this purchase.

If you have a VPN on your phone, disable it before setting up your new vacuum. The SSID and password for the wireless network need to be letters and numbers only. You can set up a guest network on your router to do this. These steps can help you avoid transferring information to the device failures.

The controls on the app are intuitive and it works as advertised. The water tank and mopping feature are great for a quick cleaning. It picks up the fur that our fur goblin Husky leaves behind with no problem.

We've been using this model for about a month and it's been doing a good job. It avoids obstacles pretty well, picks up dirt and hair, easy to empty the dustbin and fill the small water tank. It came with adhesive on the bottom of the charging dock and the "Moisture-proof mat" so they can be fixed to the floor, the dock stays in place but the mat will not stick so I stopped using it.

We used it 3 times. So far it did very good job in both, vacuuming and mobbing. Would be great if Roborock start to produce the vacuum/clean station for the S8 base model as an additional option in case customers want to add it later.
